Carrot Oat Doggie Biscuits
I was so glad I came across Doggy Dessert Chef today! I ran out of doggy biscuits throughout the holidays and I had to whip something up really fast. I live in a high rise building with lots of dogs here, and my two pups are very overprotective of the elevator. The only way to have them not bark at the other dogs is to have a yummy treat in my hand. And some people are completely NOT ok with “some dogs barking loud at their well behaved dogs”.. Pfft. Can’t wait to one day live in my own house.. Dreamin, dreamin.. Ha ha. So anyway, the recipe is called Apple Carrot Bits, but I didn’t have applesauce, so I used two medium ripe bananas (I mashed them and it was exactly 1 cup of mashed bananas)
Here’s my adjusted recipe, based on Doggy Dessert Chef‘s recipe:
Ingredients
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (I used 2 medium ripe bananas)
1/2 cup grated Carrot
1 3/4 cup Whole Wheat Flour
1/4 cup Oats
1/4 cup Wheat Germ
Directions
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a baking pan.
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until well combined. Knead dough into ball and divide into two “logs”, about 10inches long and an inch thick. Cut about 1/4inch thick pieces of dough, with a pizza cutter, or a sharp knife. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes. If they’re still soft to touch, turn off the oven and leave the treats in there for about 2 hours to dry and harden. Cool and serve. Store in airtight container, in the fridge. They should hold for about 2 weeks, but I’m sure mine won’t last that long; Oprah and Chuck have a very great appetite for treats ; )
